The past few days have been incredibly rich with learning, growth, challenges, frustrations, faith, and love.
God has done a lot of amazing things, from our training to being able to go out as a family on a mission. It has been such a gift for our family to see nations transformed.
God did sooo much during our week training here in Cambodia! We felt so honored how they've taken a week off just to invest into our team. We've learned SO much and we are so grateful!! On our leadership training, our team has already experienced a remarkable transformation. We've absorbed an abundance of knowledge, acquiring valuable skills and insights that will undoubtedly shape our future as leaders.
Each session of the training has empower us with the tools and strategies needed to excel in our roles. It's astonishing to witness how much we've already learned in just few days. We saw the positive impact it will have on our team dynamics.
Shem and I are eager to evaluate our effectiveness and long-term impact as leaders in every Filipino we disciple. It has been a wonderful experience to come here and learn, particularly as a family. God has been so good to us!
At the start of our trip, we explained to Zach that there are places where we need to be cautious about sharing who Jesus is. He had many questions, but in the end, the conversation made him tear up. He said, "Remember how Paul went to prison because he talked about Jesus?" So, we had an extended discussion about it. After a while, he looked away, still teary-eyed, and said, "Mom, you might not like what I'm about to say." Then, he said, "I still want to share who Jesus is with them. They need Jesus! We can't let them go to hell!" Both Shem and I were speechless, our jaws dropped. We were in awe and proud of his conviction. That was the moment we realized who Zach is likely to grow up to be - a person who won't rest until Jesus is proclaimed to all!
Our trip opened Zach’s eyes to more than just what our physical eyes can see, but also to the unseen. He understood why Paul didn’t mind going to prison when sharing about Jesus! It was such a sweet moment for us as his parents to see him moved to tears for the nations.
How can we say God is good to a 15-year-old high school student after hearing her tragic story? She got raped by her boyfriend, who impregnated her. It took her a few months before she realized that she was pregnant. She felt helpless, alone, depressed, and devastated, and she felt that the only thing that was left of her was the memory of that trauma. When she told her family, they didn’t believe her and hid her from their community. Looking at her baby only reminds her of God’s unfaithfulness and that God is not a good God.
While we were talking, I just felt the power of God touching her. I didn't fully know what to do or say knowing she'd been through a lot. But then again the Holy Spirit showed up, and suddenly she prayed and uttered repentance, and I knew it was God showing up to her. And she told me that she saw Jesus hanging on the cross, saying, My daughter, IT IS FINISHED!
We were going from house to house, and in the first house, we felt the Holy Spirit wanting to do something in that family. The mother told us that her daughter, Betty, had polio 12 years ago and hasn’t been able to walk or feel ever since, and because of that, she is very insecure and ashamed of herself, and you should see it in her face. Her dad carried her to the door for us to pray for her, and the Holy Spirit was really present. She opened up about being angry with God and was able to forgive him; she had never heard the gospel before, so we shared it with her, and as we were sharing it, her legs started to move; she received Jesus and started to have feeling in her legs again! Her parents were watching all of it, and her dad decided to give his life to Jesus too! We went to check on her the next day, and the atmosphere was much lighter. God is so faithful in showing up. We witnessed a miracle that day, and lives were given to Jesus.
It was a normal day until the parents woke up from their sleep finding their baby girl floating on the water dead. How could this have happened?
We went to a squatters area in Cavite and I was talking to this little boy named Prince. He’s such a sweet spirit, boy. He started talking to me when he saw I was carrying Zadok. He asked me in tagalog “anak mo sya?”(is he your son?) And I replied “yes” and then he looked at me with sadness saying “I missed my baby sister, she died because my mom and dad are always getting drunk and that night they both fell asleep and forgot about the baby.” I was in shock and disbelief hearing him say that. He was younger than 7 years old. I was literally teary eyes talking to him while asking him more questions. He said after what happened, his parents separated and he stayed with his dad.
My heart cries with this little boy, I remember while he was speaking, my mind is stuck with a lot of questions “how can a mom be that selfish?” And God spoke to me saying “she was very broken too, she had suffered loss too, she has questions too.”
This is why my heart burns for women. They have been served injustices in their lives and it became a norm for them to lived and feel that way, generations repeats itself. It’s time for us to stand up and break these bondages!
Ate Joan's life was challenging, but her perseverance and her joy to continue pushed her to raise her two beautiful kids. She was four years old when their house burned down while she was inside. Half of her body was a third-degree burn, her whole left arm was stuck together for more than three decades, and she just got her surgery five years ago. So for most of her life, she was just using her one arm to do what mom needed to do. Her kids biological father was murdered when her second baby just turned one year old. She described her life as a tragedy, and she can't believe that there's a God who loves her the way she looks. She is such a strong woman, and she didn't hesitate to accept Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior. So blessed to see her have tears of joy knowing that there's a Father that sees her and loves her.
These children are so precious. Zach had an opportunity to pray with them and be friends with them. At a young age, Zach is learning the value of generosity and what it looks like to share the gospel by sharing what he has. I remember one time he came to me and said, "Mom, I want to save money for kids outside who don't have food and are begging every time they are hungry." It's such a blessing to learn from him. How he can go the extra mile just to bless other kids like him, it ministers to us as parents. We see how God encounters him in little moments like this. We don't need to tell him who Jesus is because he's already encountering Him in his daily life.

One of the places we've been is a floating village. It's a squatter area or slum community. It's heartbreaking to hear stories, but this specific one tore my heart apart. She shared her story, and as she sat there, you could see and feel deep pain, and she was trying so hard not to show any emotions. She was just seven years old when her dad's friend started raping her every day, and her dad knew this was happening. At 11 years old, she escaped from home and was kidnapped. She was taken to a place where she was again repeatedly raped by a man and a lesbian. While praying for her, we just felt God's unconditional love and the tears running down the Father's eyes. She's been through a lot, but she can still say that God's grace was upon her.
You could help make an eternal impact on this generation and beyond. We invite you to join in making a difference in the Philippines through the Batiancilas.
